Head, Supply Chain

Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the position of Head, Supply Chain.
IITA is an international nonprofit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. Position: IITA seeks a dynamic, flexible, and an enthusiastic team player to join its Headquarters team as the Head of the Supply Chain Unit This is a senior role that requires commitment, diplomacy and drive. He/she will manage all of the relationships and functions across the whole Supply Chain Unit (Procurement, Stores and Shipping [Logistics]). These functional relationships include the management and coordination of IITA Limited International Procurement Office and Africa Stations Supply Chain Management.

The position reports to the Deputy Director General (R4D-S) of IITA.

Duty Station: Ibadan, Nigeria

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Supply Chain team and provide leadership and direction on all supply chain activities across IITA


  • Implement the overall supply chain strategy as set out in the five year strategic plan in line with delivering ongoing value


  • Implement and improve on already developed Key Performance Indicators across the whole supply chain which drives value in line with the ‘Balanced Scorecard’ approach


  • Manage the Supply Chain operations within Ibadan namely; Procurement, Stores and Shipping


  • Integrate Africa Stations into overall supply chain management concepts. Provide leadership and direction in the creation of ‘Regional Hub’ supply chain management functions


  • Manage the UK International Procurement Office (IITA Ltd) as a self sustaining and self-financing part of IITA


  • Implement on-going Supply Chain training programs and initiatives to significantly upgrade the capability of staff within the total unit in order for trained staff to initiate additional ‘value adding’ strategies and tactics for IITA


  • Qualifications/Experience:

  • At least ten years of progressive supply chain and marketing experience with at least five years at an executive level. Experience both in the public and private sector would be a distinct advantage


  • Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain from a recognised Chartered Institute is essential, combined with a strong first degree in Finance and Supply Chain Management. An MBA would also be an advantage


  • Excellent people management skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Excellent analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities


  • Experience working in a developing country and within multidisciplinary and culturally diverse environments


  • General Information: Initial appointment is for two years. IITA offers a competitive remuneration package paid in US dollars

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE JOB VACANCIES AT AFRICAN RICE CENTER (WARDA)

Africa Rice Center (WARDA) is an autonomous intergovernmental research association of African member states. WARDA is also one of the 15 international Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CIGIAR), WARDA beliefs that diversity in its staff promotes excellence in its operations, and encourages application from women. WARDA is operating from its temporary headquarters, located 17 km north of Cotonou, Benin.
The African Rice Center (WARDA) is located on campus of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan, seeks a highly qualified personals to fill the position of Administrative Assistance/Research Associate within the frame work of its Famine Project at the General Support Staff (GSS) level. The successful candidate will be stationed at WARDA’s substation in Ibadan and will work under the supervision of WARDA-Nigeria coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
The candidate will assist the project manager to:

  • Liaise with Country Coordinator units of the project in Nigeria, attend meetings as directed by the project manager

  • Collect, manage and analyze data and reports from the Country Coordinator Units (CCU) in Nigeria, draft quality technical reports monthly, quarterly and annually

  • Participate and facilitate training activities, prepare training and extension materials

  • Assist in organizing the translation, editing and packaging of videos for managing trainers and farmers



REQUIREMENTS :
Candidates must have:

  • Msc degree in plant breeding, agronomy, agricultural economics, agricultural extension or equivalent degree plus 2 years research experience

  • Field experience in crop production, extension, monitoring and evaluation, strong knowledge in experimental design, statistical analysis, computer literate, proficiency in writing and spoken English

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, capacity to work independently and can communicate farmers effectively

RESEARCH SURVEYOR-INTERNATIONAL INTITUTE OF TROPICAL AGRICULTURE (IITA) IBADAN NIGERIA

IITA, with Headquarters at Ibadan, is an International Agricultural Research Centre in the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), which is an association of about 50 countries, international and regional organizations and private foundations.

The Molecular Breeding Unit of the Institute seeks suitable and highly motivated Nigerians to fill the position of Research Supervisor in its Central Biotechnology Laboratory (CBL) at the headquarters of Ibadan. Te CBL is the centre for excellence for state –of-the-art Molecular and Cellular Technology, Transformation, Cloning, DNA sequencing, Bioinformatics and Tissue Culture. The CBL of IITA has a track record of training many young scientists presently working in advanced laboratories worldwide.

Job Duties : The Research Supervisor will participate in


  • Plant DNA/RNA isolation

  • RNA quality and quantity analysis

  • DNA sequencing

  • PCR amplification

  • Gel Electrophoresis and other cognate techniques

  • Supervision and training of laboratory personnel and general administration/maintenance of the laboratory

  • Maintenance of accurate data record and laboratory notebooks and on computer



Job Qualification:

  • Minimum of B.Sc degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology or related field

  • Training in basic principles of Genetics, Plant Biology is highly desirable

  • Exposure to Cell and Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics

JOBS AT THE WEST AFRICA SEED ALLIANCE (WASA)

THE WEST AFRICA SEED ALLIANCE (WASA): The USAID-funded West Africa Seed Alliance (WASA) SEEDS project has as its primary objective to establish and support a sustainable private seed industry capable of ensuring that small scale farmers have affordable, timely and reliable access to improved and high quality seeds varieties and planting materials by playing a leading role in the growth and development of variable agricultural input systems in USAID and WASA, supporting the overall growth of the west Africa agricultural sector, (WASA) and improving the agricultural enabling environment. The USAID funded project maximizing Agricultural Revenue and key Enterprises in Targeted sites (Markets) project aims of expanding economic opportunities by increasing agricultural, WASA, USAID, output and value added processing. In a collaborative effort between WASA/SEEDS and MARKETS. The WASA/SEEDS project is seeking suitable candidates for the following positions.

Job Positions:

COUNTRY COORDINATOR (m/f)

The WASA/SEEDS Country coordinator will be based in Abuja and will report to the WASA/SEEDS chief of party based in Ghana. Duties include
Coordinate all seed and agribusiness activities carried out by WASA/SEEDS in Nigeria and in support of the MARKETS project aims at expanding economic opportunities by increasing agricultural output and value added processing in collaborative effort between WASA/SEEDS and MARKETS. The WASA/SEEDS project is seeking available candidates for the following positions

Country Coordinator (M/F): The WASA/SEEDS Country coordinator will be based in Abuja and will report to the WASA/SEEDS Chief of party based in Ghana. Duties include:
Coordinate all seed and agribusiness activities carried out by WASA/SEEDS in Abuja/Nigeria and in support of the MARKETS project:
Manage the WASA/SEEDS term in Kana and Abuja, Develop annual work plans and budgets and make sure that agreed-upon deliverable are met. He/She will be responsible for reporting on the project progress on the work. Closely with the MARKETS team on appropriate strategies strengthen the seed value chain in Nigeria. Develop and appropriate M&E scheme for the project and report on M&E indicators.

Qualifications:
Minimum of a Msc in Agric Science or marketing. Minimum of ten years in Agricultural sector development (USAID project experience will be a plus).
Excellent knowledge of the Nigeria agricultural sector with emphasis on agre-processing and value addition.
Experience in seed sector development will be a plus, Experience in the private agricultural sector at senior level, Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, Computer literate and Nigeria national.

SEEDS SYSTEM MANAGER (M/F):
The seed systems manager will be based in Abuja and will work under the supervision of the WASA/SEEDS Regional Seed production specialist (based in Bamako, Mali) and will report administratively to the country coordinator based in Abuja Duties include:
Work closely with the Kano based WASA/SEEDS team to maintain wherence and transparency within the programme, Responsible for all seed related program activities in support of the overall MARKETS goals and objectives; Responsible for sourcing improved varieties of key crops (Maize, rice, sorghum, sesame, and cassava) from National, regional and international sources, plan crop demonstrations with agro dealers and farmer netweork. Facilitate seed production in collaboration with WASA/SEEDS partner seed companies/ seed producers that have potential to become fully fledged commercial seed enterprises.

QUALIFICATION:
Minimum Msc Agriculture or related degree with a minimum of 5 years professional practical experience in seed production as well as a background in seed certification, quality control procedures and marketing skills, knowledge of input marketing or agribusiness; strong knowledge of seed policy is a plus; excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer literate with word, Excel, and power point software; fluency in written and spoken English acknowledge of Local Languages is a plus.
