ICAN: Managers (Professional Practice Monitoring)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• To keep current records of practicing firms
• To participate in regular practice monitoring of firms
• To assist in preparing practical help and guidance on technical matters relating to professional practice
• To maintain an up to date record of the institute’s rule and regulations regarding professionals practice
• To monitor changes in auditing standards
• To provide support for small and medium practices (SMPs)
• To comment on an accounting and auditing exposure drafts
• To write minutes of committee meetings
• To coordinate the activities of Technology Competence initiative (TCI)
• To implement Council’s decisions on professional practice.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
• A good first degree in Economics/Accounting or Higher National Diploma in Accounting
• Must be a chartered Accountant (ACA) and member of the institute
• Must be a team player and have excellent interpersonal relationship skills
• Must have integrity
• Must be highly resourceful
• Have excellent communication and report writing skills
• Must be research inclined
• Must have at least 3 years audit experience
• Second degree would be an added advantage

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

Jobs Main Responsibilities
• Supervise a team of 4 to 6 drivers
• Execute HR administrative tasks
• Explain and apply financial and administrative procedures
• Follow up and process payments (cash and bank)
• Keep accounting books up to date and prepare accounting documents
• Update various administrative lists, including those related to Human Resources
• Keep inventory of equipment, furniture, stationary
• Organize the maintenance and repair on premises and office equipment (photocopiers, telephones, faxes, etc)
• Make travel arrangements for staff Execute various secretarial works and keep the filing up-to-date (electronic and paper)

Jobs Minimum Requirements
• B.Sc in business and administration or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years work experience in a similar position

PhD Scholarships Doctoral Students

PhD Scholarships Doctoral -applications are invited for 6 Doctoral students under the DST/NRF Research Chair on Innovation Studies at the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation (IERI) in South Africa.

Candidates are welcome to submit proposals on how knowledge, innovation and capacity for promoting African integration through the application of the convergence of information, computers and communication technologies, biotechnologies, cognitive technologies and nano-technologies applied to the pressing challenges African countries face simultaneously now as multiple and overlapping economic, food, energy, health and climate crises.

Applicants must possess an MSc or MA, preferably in a field related to science, technology and innovation in relation to some aspect of African development.

They should also submit a not more than a 5-page research proposal, with research question, methodology, and a three year plan that includes how they intend to undertake literature review, field research and the final completion of the thesis. The successful candidates will be expected to take a full research methods PhD course and deliver as research seminars the product of their research.

Minimum qualifications:
Recent MSc or MA. In economics and inter-disciplinary fields related to Science, Technology and Innovation studies.

Minimum experience:
Both fresh post-graduates and those with experience in the Science, Technology and Innovation field would be welcomed.


Specific training/skills:

Excellent written, oral, communication, presentation and computer skills will be required. Candidates will be expected to gain skills in software packages to simulate and process the empirical data for their research.

Other requirements:
Successful candidate will be expected to gain some teaching experience, conference attendance in related fields to their primary research based on the recommendation of the supervisors :


There is money (grants) set aside for these posts; from NRF and for full time academic candidates we are looking further scholarships including possible top-up up by the Faculty and DVC:

Possible assessment:
It can be expected from the candidates to do a presentation related to the qualification, the research they wish to do based on their written application and their motivation to undertake a PhD research during the interview on a relevant topic that will be communicated before the date of the interview.

The Job Position: Customs and Relationships Manager

This position, with a direct report to the Commercial and Business Development Manager is to ensure a timely and effective correspondence with the Nigerian customs, government officials as well as the local dock worker inclusive of other government agencies on all matters to enhance the City Office operations and most importantly to foster an integrity based interaction with the customs whilst opening new avenues for APMT in securing ties where our current penetration is non existent.

Job Principal Accountabilities:

* Works to promote a positive image of the Company to the community and government organizations.
* Develops contacts and relationships with key local and national representatives, government agencies including Customs in order to create opportunities for keeping the Company and its services in front of the public and the trade.
* Advice management of all changes in governmental/custom policies, regulatory matters and how they affect the company in operational capacity.
* Represent the company’s position to new policies by Nigerian Customs and governmental agencies.
* Constantly liaise with the Nigerian customs and other government agencies on policies, new technologies and mode of operations adopted by the company.
* To actively take part in the profitable development of the City Office with special focus on customers and commercial activities in relation to customs and governmental requirements.
* To always persevere to accomplish set goals by addressing issues in either public forums or individual audiences to ascertain APMT objectives.
* Ensure a constant schedule to meet with customers, government officials and customs.
* Liaise with agents within the shipping community with full knowledge of top management goals, budgets and cost of operations.
* Schedule units for customs examination and validation.
* To work closely with Stakeholders (Nigerian Police, Customs, Security, Consignees etc) to minimise customer service issues.
* To perform any other duties assigned.

JOB PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

* Must possess a sound public speaking and negotiations skills.
* Must be physically fit.

Function you will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of effective human resource strategies for the company. Your key responsibilities will include assessing both current and future needs of the business as they pertain to staffing, manpower development and HSE issues. You will ensure best practice is adopted in relation to employee welfare schemes and promote an industrially harmonious work environment. In addition, you will also be responsible for creating new initiatives aimed at increasing employees’ commitment to the company’s ambitious business plans and ensuring compliance with policies in line with the standards of operation within the Energy/Oil and Gas sector and Nigerian Labour Law.
Minimum Requirement You will be degree-qualified (preferably with a relevant post-graduate degree qualification and IPMN membership) and aged between 37 and 42 years’. You must have a minimum of ten years’ post graduation experience; five of which must have been in a similar role within a reputable corporate organization. You must be familiar with current national issues and possess an open-minded approach to problem solving.
